Critical Thinking

« Back to Glossary Index

Critical thinking is the ability to understand the logical connections between ideas, to resolve problems, communicate ideas, and contribute to discussions and decision making. Critical thinking may be conceptualized differently across disciplines and cultures. In learning, critical thinking is considered a competency that is necessary to analyze and comprehend new knowledge. In employment, critical thinking may be exercised more directly as the ability to use one’s judgment in making a choice or a decision about a process or a course of action. In communication, critical thinking helps in decisions about how to communicate in a situation that involves colleagues and internal or external customers.
