Nonverbal Communication

« Back to Glossary Index

Nonverbal communication refers to communication that does not rely on language. This is also known as body language, but it is not limited to gestures, movements, postures and facial expressions. Nonverbal communication also includes voice, tone and pitch of voice that convey information about emotions, moods, and feelings of people in interactions with each other. Nonverbal expression is typically not consciously learned, but is habitual and not intentional.
